Three Ways to Fight Spiritual Warfare

— by

The closer we get to God, the more intimate relationship we have with God, the more the devil wants to destroy us. If he even so much as thinks we are going to do something good in the name of Jesus, he wants to knock us back down and discourage us from sharing the gospel truth.

This, my friends, is called spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is when the enemy comes after us in ways he knows will stop us in our tracks. For me, it usually has something to do with finances or relationships.

3 Ways to Fight Spiritual Warfare

Recently as I’ve studied to hone my craft of writing for the good of the Lord, the devil has tried to pull out all the stops. Several days have ended in discouragement after full days of leaning into the Word of God to grow closer to Him and learn how to steward others to Him.

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.” – 1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

1 Peter 5:8-9

This verse reminds us of these three ways to fight spiritual warfare:

  1. Stand firm against the devil. You can do this a number of ways. You can pray. You can read The Word of God or even speak it out loud. “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” -‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬
  2. Be strong in faith. Trust in the Lord to protect you. “Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. – Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭3‬ ‭NLT‬
  3. Lean on others when you need encouragement. “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” – Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬-‭12

Friends, I know these things sound simple, but if you’re anything like me, they may not come easy. But God loves us regardless of our faults. Just keep rebuking the devil, trusting in the Lord, and leaning on your Christian community when you need support. God will carry you through.
