Finding Peace Under Pressure: Releasing Control and Embracing God’s Good Plan

— by

The pressure of life nearly broke me. Well, maybe it did. As I broke down in tears on the phone with my sister, I couldn’t help but wonder how I got myself in this position.

Am I too much of an over-achiever? Probably.

Do I do too much in general? Definitely.

Do I have much of a choice when it comes to how much I do? Maybe.

Is there anything that I really want to remove from my to-do list? Not really.

Do I know exactly how to prioritize and time batch and all the time management tips to make things smoother? Yes.

As busy working moms, our days are often filled with juggling work deadlines, family responsibilities, and household chores, leaving little room for ourselves, let alone time for stillness. The overwhelming pressure to “do it all” can leave us drained, mentally and physically, as we strive for control over every part of our lives.

But what if the peace we’re searching for is not found in more control, but in less…?

What if true peace comes from surrendering to the goodness of God’s perfect plan?

The Pressure to “Do it All”

We have all felt the weight of trying to balance everything. The to-do lists that never end—meetings at work, school pickups, dinner prep, laundry. And then there’s the deeper desire to be fully present for our children and our spouses while advancing in our careers.

We tell ourselves, “If I can just organize my time better, then everything will fall into place.” But despite our best efforts, the demands keep coming, and the peace we long for feels out of reach.

This pressure to manage it all often leaves us feeling inadequate, stressed, and guilty. We want to be everything to everyone, but that isn’t realistic. And the harder we try, the more we realize that we’re never truly in control.

Trust in His Goodness and Sovereignty

In the midst of our chaotic schedules and striving, we are reminded of a beautiful truth in Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

This simple yet powerful verse calls us to stop, breathe, and recognize that God is the one in control—not us. His goodness is not dependent on how well we manage our day or how perfectly we balance work and home life. His goodness is unwavering, and His plans for us are far better than anything we could ever orchestrate on our own.

In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are further encouraged to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

It’s a humbling reminder that we don’t have to know it all or control it all. When we trust in God’s goodness and surrender our plans to Him, we can rest in the assurance that He is guiding our steps.

Surrendering Control and Finding Peace

Surrendering control does not mean abandoning our responsibilities or neglecting our roles as mothers and professionals. Rather, it means shifting our mindset and recognizing that while we are called to steward our time and talents well, we are not the ultimate coordinators of our lives. God is.

One practical way to practice surrendering control is through daily prayer and intentional reflection. Before the chaos of the day begins, take a few moments in the morning to pause and give your day to God. Ask Him for guidance and wisdom as you navigate the challenges ahead.

When you feel overwhelmed, take a breath and remind yourself that God is present in the details. He cares about your work, your family, and your heart.

Another way to release control is by prioritizing what matters most. Not every task on your to-do list is equally important, and part of trusting in God’s goodness is recognizing that He will provide the strength for what truly matters. It’s okay to let some things go.

Instead of striving for perfection, embrace progress and let God fill in the gaps.

Releasing Control in Real Life

Let’s be real: releasing control does not always come naturally, especially for us moms who are used to managing so many moving parts. But as you practice surrender, you’ll begin to experience a shift.

When we trust God with our schedules, our families, and our futures, we open ourselves up to the peace that only He can provide.

God’s goodness is not limited by our circumstances. Even when life feels overwhelming or uncertain, His plans for us remain perfect.

Jeremiah 29:11 assures us of this: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

No matter what is happening around us, we can rest in the truth that God’s goodness will never fail.

Embrace the Freedom of Trust

God sees you, mama. He knows the pressures you face, the weight you carry, and the longing you have for balance and peace. And in His goodness, He offers you freedom—not from responsibility, but from the need to control it all.

This week, I encourage you to take a step back from the busyness and surrender your day-to-day plans to Him. Trust that His timing is perfect, even when yours feels rushed. Know that He is working all things together for your good, even when it feels like nothing is going according to plan. Release your grip and embrace the peace that comes from letting God take the lead.

As busy working mamas, we often feel the need to control every aspect of our lives to maintain balance and ensure everything runs smoothly. But the honest to God truth is… Control does not bring us peace—surrendering to God’s goodness does.

As we release our plans and trust in His perfect plan, we can experience the freedom and rest we have been longing for.

So, mama, let go of the need to do it all, and trust in the One who holds it all together. God’s goodness is faithful, and His plans for you are better than you can imagine.
