I like to think that God brings people, roles, or situations into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. I’ve had my fair share of all three.
There have been times when things felt heavy and uncertain in the middle of the mess, but ended up working out for the good of all involved.
There have been harder moments, too, when it felt like the next right step of obedience would (and did) turn my life upside down.
These decisions didn’t make sense in the moment. They caused loss and grief.
Ultimately, those decisions led to a greater purpose.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” – Romans 8:28 NLT
Just as we reflect back on our own journeys to identify the pivotal moments and good works of our Father, we can reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross.
As we do so, we see Him walk a path filled with suffering, sacrifice, and purpose. Jesus knew what was ahead, yet He walked forward in obedience, trusting God’s redemption plan.
“For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2
As busy, working moms, we also face hard seasons, unseen sacrifices, and moments of exhaustion. But just as God was working through Jesus’ suffering to bring redemption, He is also working in our lives – even when we can’t see it yet.
As we approach Holy Week, let’s reflect on the sacrifices made and trust bestowed by Jesus for our salvation. Let’s look at His obedience as an example for our own walk with God.
Just as He obediently followed the Lord’s guidance for his journey to the cross, we also must endure the hardest moments of motherhood and obediently follow our Heavenly Father’s promptings, through stress, exhaustion, and uncertainly, and trust that our daily sacrifices have a purpose beyond what we see today.
How do we trust God when life feels unbearably hard – when our hearts are heavy, our bodies are tired, and our souls are worn thin?
Here are 5 powerful ways to stay anchored in trust during life’s hardest moments:
1. Fix your eyes on Jesus, not your circumstances.
“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame.” – Hebrews 12:2 (NLT)
When life feels chaotic or uncertain, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong. But trust is built when we shift our gaze from the mess around us to the Savior before us. Like Jesus, we endure by looking ahead – past the pain, past the problems – to the joy and redemption that are coming.
2. Endure with hope, knowing you are deeply loved.
“Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.” – Hebrews 12:3 (NLT)
Jesus endured suffering because He knew His identity and His purpose. And so can we. When we remember that we are daughters of the Most High God – seen, loved, and chosen – we find the strength to keep going. We don’t endure alone. Our Heavenly Father walks with us.
3. Walk the straight path – even when it’s hard.
“Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.” – Hebrews 12:13 (NLT)
In hard seasons, it’s tempting to veer off course or numb our pain. But God calls us to stay faithful, not just for our sake, but for the sake of others watching us. Our obedience creates strength, not only in us, but in those who are walking beside us. Your steady walk can be someone else’s strength.
4. Pursue peace and holiness, even when emotions run high.
“Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” – Hebrews 12:14 (NLT)
When we feel overwhelmed or mistreated, it’s easy to respond out of our flesh. But trust looks like choosing peace over pride and holiness over hurry. God honors our commitment to live set apart, even when it costs us our comfort.
5. Remember that your sacrifice has eternal significance.
Jesus didn’t endure the cross because it felt good. He endured because He trusted what was on the other side – joy, victory, redemption.
The same is true for us. Our daily, unseen sacrifices as working moms may feel ordinary or thankless now, but they are part of a greater story that God is writing.
Even when the road ahead feels uncertain, exhausting, or painful, we can walk forward in faith, just like Jesus did. He didn’t shy away from the hard path because He knew it led to something far greater than the pain: our redemption.
In the same way, your sacrifices, your quiet obedience, and your unwavering love in the messy middle of motherhood are not wasted.
God is working through every unseen moment, every tear, every surrender. He’s writing a redemptive story in your life, even when you can’t see the ending yet.
So keep walking. Keep trusting. And keep your eyes fixed on the joy that’s ahead.
