My phone rang at 4:48 p.m. I knew it was my husband calling on his way home, and I also knew exactly what he was going to ask:
“What’s for dinner?”
I groaned before answering.
“I don’t know,” I said. “What do you want?”
He replied, “Whatever you feel like cooking.”
That was the problem. I didn’t feel like cooking.
I didn’t want to spend the mental energy deciding what to make – and I definitely didn’t want to use the physical energy to cook, serve, and clean it all up afterward.
Honestly? I didn’t even want to decide on a drive-thru.
Later that evening, I found myself standing in front of the fridge with the doors wide open, staring at the shelves like I was searching for answers – not ingredients.
It wasn’t that we didn’t have food.
It was that I couldn’t bring myself to make another decision.
My brain was just…done.
And that’s when it hit me:
I’m tired of making decisions.
Not just the big ones.
All of them.
What to pack in lunches.
Whether we have time to stop at the store today.
Which socks are clean enough for soccer practice.
When to schedule that checkup I’ve been putting off.
How to word the response to the email I still haven’t answered.
Nothing felt clear. Everything felt heavy.
And if you’ve ever felt like your mind is moving in five directions at once while simultaneously going nowhere… you’re not alone.
What Is Decision Fatigue?
Decision fatigue is the mental weariness that comes from having to make an overwhelming number of choices in a short amount of time.

And working moms? We’re constantly making decisions – not just for ourselves, but for our kids, our homes, our jobs, our relationships, and everything in between.
Even the “simple” ones add up.
Even the things we love carry mental weight.
By the time we reach the end of the day (or let’s be honest, halfway through it), we’ve used up most of our energy just deciding what’s next.
Why This Matters Heading Into Mother’s Day
As we approach Mother’s Day, many of us are quietly carrying the weight of decisions no one sees – because it’s simply expected.
You’ve been holding the calendar in your head.
Keeping the household running.
Meeting work deadlines.
Planning meals or gifts for other people.
And still trying to show up as the joyful, present mom you want to be.
If no one’s told you lately: What you do every single day is incredibly valuable.
But also?
It’s okay to be tired.
The Way Forward Isn’t Hustling Harder – It’s Releasing Control
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” – James 1:5

The truth is: you were never meant to carry it all.
And while simplifying helps, surrendering is what truly sets us free.
God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, decisive, or always “on.”
He invites you to ask Him for wisdom – and He promises to give it generously.
Let that sink in.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You just have to come to the One who does.
So What Can You Do Practically?
Here’s where I want to offer both hope and help.

This Mother’s Day, my prayer is that you don’t just feel appreciated – I pray you feel aligned.
Not pulled in five directions.
Not emotionally depleted.
But deeply rooted in God’s peace and the clarity He offers when we slow down long enough to ask.
You don’t have to do it all.
You just have to do what He’s called you to do.
And sometimes, the next faithful step is simply making space to breathe again.
