In today’s fast-paced world, balancing the demands of work, home, and faith is unrealistic, especially for working moms. The pressures of deadlines, family responsibilities, and the desire to live out one’s faith authentically can create a whirlwind of stress and often leads to burnout if we aren’t careful. However, amidst this chaos, it is possible to find peace. I like to think that all our priorities can work in harmony with each other with some tactical and practical strategies. Here are some guiding principles to help you navigate this journey with grace and composure.

1. Anchor Yourself in Prayer
Prayer is a powerful tool for inviting peace into your day. Start your day with prayer, asking God for guidance, strength, and peace. Even a few moments of stillness can set a positive tone for your day. Remember Philippians 4:6-7, which encourages us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, promising that His peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds.
Tip: Set a reminder on your phone or keep a prayer journal. This can help make prayer a consistent part of your daily routine.
2. Embrace Sabbath Rest
God designed us to need rest, and the Sabbath is a gift for our well-being. It’s essential to carve out time each week to unplug from work and household chores, focusing instead on rest and spiritual rejuvenation. Whether it’s spending time with family, reading Scripture, or simply being in nature, honoring the Sabbath can restore your soul. A great book on rest is “Tired of Being Tired” by Jess Connolly. I highly recommend it!
Tip: Plan your week to ensure that your Sabbath is protected. Communicate this time to your family and involve them in restful activities.
3. Prioritize Your Commitments
Not everything demands your immediate attention. Reflect on what truly matters in light of your faith and values. By prioritizing your to do list, you can reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed. And if you don’t know where to start, pick one thing and check it off the list. ✔️ Maybe even the thing you dread the most. Checking it off the list will give you energy and momentum to keep checking those dreaded tasks off your list. Matthew 6:33 reminds us to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and everything else will fall into place.
Tip: Make a brain dump list of your weekly tasks and categorize them into urgent, important, and non-essential. Figure out what only you can do, delegate what someone else can do, and delay or delete the rest.
4. Build a Support Network
You don’t have to do it all alone. Surround yourself with a supportive community, whether it’s family, friends, or fellow believers. Sharing your burdens and joys with others can provide emotional support and practical help, easing the pressures of daily life.
Tip: Connect with other working moms at church, work, daycare, or within your friend group. These fellow moms can become close friends who allow you to offload stress through shared experiences and offer camaraderie and support.
5. Practice Gratitude
Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s stressing us to what’s blessing us. Regularly acknowledging God’s blessings can cultivate a peaceful heart. Keep a gratitude journal where you jot down things you’re thankful for each day. I like to start my day with coffee and quiet time. Prior to diving into my devotional, I write down 5 things I’m thankful for and a prayer of thanksgiving and requests for the day ahead.
Tip: During your prayer time, make it a habit to thank God for specific aspects of your day. This practice can transform your perspective and bring peace.
6. Trust in God’s Plan
Life’s pressures often stem from the fear of the unknown or the desire to control outcomes. Personally, I find myself craving control when life feels out of control. Trusting in God’s sovereign plan brings peace, knowing that He works all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Surrender your worries to Him, trusting that His plans are higher than our own.
Tip: When feeling anxious, recite a verse like Jeremiah 29:11, reminding yourself of God’s promise to give you hope and a future. Scripture-based affirmations are a powerful way to immerse yourself in God’s Word and feel encouraged throughout the day. Memorizing these affirmations helps your brain recall them when you subconsciously start doubting the direction you are moving. Scripture-based affirmation example based off Psalms 29:11 (NLT): The Lord gives me strength. The Lord blesses me with peace.
7. Self-Care is Spiritual Care
Taking care of your physical and emotional health is not selfish; it’s essential for sustaining your ability to care for others and perform with excellence at work. Neglecting your self-care can lead to burnout, depression, and resentment. Ensure you’re getting adequate sleep, eating healthily, and engaging in activities that refresh you. One area that I personally struggle prioritizing is exercising. But I know that when I consistently exercise, my body and my mind thank me for it. It helps my depression and anxiety, and helps my tolerance and patience levels.
Tip: Schedule regular self-care activities into your calendar, whether it’s a walk, a hobby, a pedicure or massage, or a quiet time of reflection. Your body and your mind will thank you for it.

Pursuing peace under pressure as a Christian working mom is a journey of faith and intentionality. By anchoring ourselves in prayer, embracing rest, prioritizing commitments, building a support network, practicing gratitude, trusting God’s plan, and taking care of ourselves, we can experience God’s peace that surpasses all understanding. Remember, you are not alone in this journey—God is with you every step of the way, providing strength and serenity amidst the pressures of life.
