Being a mom is… well, a journey. Sometimes rewarding, sometimes comical, sometimes infuriating, often exhausting, and definitely not without its challenges. One of the biggest struggles working moms face is the feeling of guilt. Whether it’s missing a school event due to work or simply feeling stretched too thin, mom guilt can be triggered by various factors. Mom guilt is a common struggle that many working mothers face and can make us feel like we’re not doing enough for our children, that we’re missing out on their lives, or that somehow we’re falling short as mothers. It’s important to recognize that these feelings, while common, do not reflect the truth of your worth or your abilities as a mom.

One of the most powerful ways to combat mom guilt is to trust in God and His plan for you and your family. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 26:3-4 (NLT), “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.” To find God’s peace in your daily life, it is essential that you trust that God is in control, and as long as you keep your thoughts fixed on Him and His plans for you and your family, His perfect peace will soothe your heart and mind.

When you start to feel overwhelmed by guilt, take a moment to pray and ask God for guidance and reassurance. Remember that He placed you in your role at home and at work for reasons beyond your understanding. He will equip you with the strength and wisdom you need to maintain your responsibilities in both areas of your life. Trusting God means believing that He is working all things for good, even when you can’t see it in the moment.
To embrace the peace that God offers us with our trust in Him, start by integrating small, intentional moments of connection with God into your daily routine. Here are some practical steps for navigating mom guilt and embracing God’s peace amidst the chaos of your daily life:
- Release your need to control everything (I know, I know, this is hard!) by trusting God and His plan for your life. By keeping our focus on Him and not on ourselves, we can experience His perfect peace.
- Release your worries to God by taking prayer breaks throughout the day, especially when you start to feel overwhelmed. Simple prayer example: “Heavenly Father, I give this (worry/situation/fill-in-the-blank) to you. I trust you to be in control. Amen.”
- Release the longing to do it all and be it all by connecting with others in your same season and embracing self-care and rest when necessary. Surround yourself with other moms who understand your struggles and can offer support and encouragement. Take care of yourself first so that you’ll be able to care for your family. Trust that God wants you to be whole and healthy.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of mom guilt and striving to do it all and be it all. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He expects us to be faithful and trust in Him. You’re doing your best and that is more than enough. Navigating mom guilt is a journey, but it’s not one you have to take alone. God is with you and for you through every season, every day, and every breath you take. He offers us His peace and guidance as long as we trust in Him, lean on His promises, and allow His peace to guard our hearts and minds.
Never forget – you are a good mom, equipped and empowered by God to fulfill your unique roles at home and work with grace and love. You are more than enough. Embrace His peace, let go of the guilt, and walk confidently in the knowledge that you are a cherished daughter of the Creator of the universe.
